Letters (Fall 2023)

Life lessons, warm wishes and ‘a fun read’

A sampling of notes from readers over the past months …

A delightful read

I received a link to “The Delight Is in The Details,” James Irwin’s spring 2023 story on David Ashton (B.F.A.’62). I dropped everything and read the piece from top to bottom. Loved it; loved it; and loved the way the writer structured it. His words gave me a real sense of the man and his passion. What a fun read! — Jack Norton, Midlothian, Virginia

Three cheers

Just wanted to say congratulations on your reimagined VCU Magazine. I worked at VCU from 1971 to 2004, ending up as associate dean of the College of Humanities and Sciences. I am a graduate of Marquette University back in 1960. They have had a similar-type magazine for years. Very informative and nicely photographed and well drawn. I even thought of bringing a copy of it to the development office to recommend that you start something like it. Well, you have, and keep up the good work. — John Borgard, Henrico, Virginia

‘I kept reading it and reading it’

The spring edition of VCU Magazine was delightfully done. I kept reading it and reading it, and reading parts of it to my husband, who was sitting next to me eating lunch. As David Ashton said, your best idea is often your first idea. And my first idea was that I need to let someone know that this was so well received. It added some joy and knowledge to my day. — Lynn Knox, Springfield, Virginia
